SANJIDA ZAMAN
SANJIDA ZAMAN
Born in 2002 in Queens, New York, Sanjida Zaman explores the intricacies between her worlds through personal family photos, Desi/Islamic imagery, and textiles in contrast with New York iconography and pop culture icons. She aims to provide insight on the complexities and hustle of American culture from the confusing and unique perspective of being American-born and raised by Bangladeshi Muslim parents.

Artist Statement
In my art, I embark on a journey of self-discovery, exploring themes of cultural hybridity, diasporic identity, and personal growth. By sharing my narrative through a fusion of traditional South Asian motifs, fabrics and symbolism intertwined with contemporary American influences, I use it as a way to navigate the complexities of my identity. In addition to bridging cultural gaps, my goal is to also provide a pathway for others to navigate their own journeys of self-understanding and belonging in a world growing more interconnected by the day.
