Artist Statement
My paintings are all connected through the themes of nostalgia and coping with escapism. As a kid, I had found solace and comfort during summers spent with my grandparents on Fire Island. This setting became deeply nostalgic for me and has influenced the imagery in my paintings.
I strive for my making painterly and believable compositions that also incorporates a whimsical element which adds depth to the narrative. One of my reoccurring motifs is the presence of “Chickenman” a character/alter ego created from my memories as a form of escapism. Chickenman’s presence on wood not only ties into the beachy imagery but also serves as a metaphor for the weathered nature of memory itself. With each painting representing an idealized, dreamlike image, I aim to transport viewers to another realm.
