Artist Statement
I decided to create this painting to try and feel the hunt of the wolf. My main goal was to capture the impact of the wolf and the deer colliding. I imagine it to be similar to playing little league football as a child; the exertion of running as fast as one can, colliding with another person, and hitting the cold ground. I admire the simplicity of wild animals, and their full commitment to what they do. They’re like children. This painting is created through a collage of drawings that have been buried, dug up, and then painted over. These drawings are from various times in my life and serve as memories. In the process of painting some of these drawings are entirely covered up and effectively destroyed.
